    • The Adult PACU Nurse receives and recovers patients from the OR, VIR and Cath Lab. 
    • ICU, ED or PACU experience preferred.

    Responsibilities

    The Adult PACU R.N. under general supervision, provides nursing care in the Post-Operative Care Unit (PACU) to patients entering the postoperative phase of treatment to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.

    • The PACU nurse will provide intensive care to patients as they awaken from anesthesia after a surgical procedure monitoring for and addressing complications, providing patient and family education and evaluating for patient’s readiness for transfer to post-op care unit
    • Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients
    • Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; notes all changes in physician order on assigned patient
    • Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment
    • Ensures that the PACU has a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients at all times
    • Ensures supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order
    • Admits the patient to the unit and monitors recovery from anesthesia and surgical procedure
    • Makes initial assessment and determines the nursing needs of the patient
    • Follows and implements physician’s orders and performs all required nursing activities
    • Explains nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety
    • Identifies patient’s physical and mental status
    • Monitors the patient’s medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist
    • Documents accurately in the patient’s medical record the care received and the progress in the recovery process
    • Assures that the patient fits the documented criteria prior to discharge

    Qualifications

    • Education: Graduate of School of Professional Nursing
    • Licensure: Possession of a valid temporary license or permanent license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse prior to entrance on duty. Permanent license must be obtained within 3 months of appointment. BLS Required ACLS: One year from hire
    • Experience: ICU, ED or PACU experience preferred.
