Overview

The Technical Specialist will work in a laboratory, under broad supervision, and will perform varied and fairly complex tasks.  The incumbent may be required to develop synthetic procedures and techniques.  While in- house training of laboratory duties is available, previous experience in chemical or materials science laboratories is desirable.  The incumbent will work in the area of Battery Materials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory and pilot scale sample synthesis associated with the manufacturing of manganese dioxide and lithium manganese oxide for stored power cells.  Submission of raw materials, intermediate and finished products, waste and by-products and analysis and review of results
  • Operate laboratory and pilot plant equipment for inorganic synthesis, including solid state reactions, wet chemistry, milling and electrolysis.  Position may include shift work for pilot plan production campaigns.
  • Collect data from test work, organize within spreadsheet and write report on results.
  • Complete documentation of laboratory work in lab notebook

Qualifications

  • This position requires a general education acquired through obtaining a high school diploma including completion of a high school level general chemistry lecture course and general chemistry laboratory course. College courses in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related field(s) or previous experience in a chemical synthesis lab is highly desirable. 

  • Knowledge of electrochemistry and/or battery materials is a plus. 

  • Incumbent must have a working knowledge of basic spreadsheet and word processing software applications.
  • The position also requires the ability to communicate effectively, work in a team environment and have flexibility as to assigned duties.
